Keeping History alive in buildings. Serving Utah & Idaho

About Us

Travis and Shalae in front of their historic home after it burned down in a fire

Our journey began with a daring project...

...restoring a Queen Anne Victorian Home in the heart of downtown Ogden after a devastating fire.

We were just 22 years old at the time, and while many thought we were crazy, we had a vision not only for the potential of this beautiful house but also for the entire community to unite in preserving and celebrating its unique history while forging a vibrant future.

It took us over four years to substantially complete the project, and it was a journey filled with hard work and determination.

Prior to this venture, Shalae had recently graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture, and Travis was an apprentice electrician. However, this transformative project led us to advance in our careers and start our own businesses.

Shalae pursued a Masters in Architecture and earned a historic preservation certification, while Travis earned his contractor’s license. Both of us founded our respective companies – Io LandArch and Arc Blue Electric.

Throughout the years, we continued to expand our knowledge in all facets of design and construction.

We learned the intricacies of leading and managing our businesses while continuing to develop our own restoration and infill projects.

Now, we’re packaging our extensive design and construction experience to homeowners, business owners, developers, and communities throughout Northern Utah, so your building can tell it’s story.

Mission:

At Storied Design+Build, our mission is to help our customers complete their own stories through their homes and businesses, and to save communities and their rich history, one building at a time.

What We Do

Storied Design Build is a design and general contracting company
specializing in the following areas:

Design-Build Process

Diagnosis

The first step is to request a free, no-obligation consultation with Shalae and/or Travis. On this free virtual call, we will do a 360 degree analysis of the current situation. On the call, we'll work with you and if applicable your significant other or business partners to identify current obstacles, and outline goals. You'll get clarity around where you currently are, and what it will take to get where you want to go.

Project Planning

If you decide to move forward with our services, we’ll begin with our project planning process. This step is invaluable in the initial planning and design process by helping you understand your values, clarify your objectives around the project, hone in on your unique design style, and bring your vision and your budget into alignment before moving forward with implementation.

Design

We work with you to design your space, this includes a full 3D model of your space, including the layout, materials. The purpose of this step is to finalize the majority of the decisions around the design by helping you visualize your future space.

Permitting & Construction Drawings

We put together drawings for permitting as well as bidding out your project to multiple sub-contractors. We translate the design into construction drawings, these are detailed legal documents that document the proposed layout, details, and finishes to ensure that the design is implemented as designed.

Construction

We guide you through the process of implementation, obtaining bids from qualified subcontractors, and overseeing the entire construction process to ensure that the design is implemented according to our plans, and your timeline and budget. We’re here to help sort out the unexpected construction hiccups, and oversee the construction process to help ensure that the project is implemented as designed and communicated.
