The Choberka Carriage House was built behind a Victorian home in Ogden’s Jefferson Historic District. The owners of the home retained Io to design a detached carriage house to provide an artist studio space and granny flat. The owners also desired a contemporary design that complemented the architecture of their historic home. The final design provides a three-car layout with a simple rectangular footprint. The zoning ordinance required that the roofline and materials match the main home. Io created an asymmetrical flat roof dormer, minimal eave overhangs, and subtle modern details to provide a contemporary interpretation of Victorian architecture.
